The antimicrobial properties of silver have been known since antiquity, but its negative effect was discovered in
the 80s of the twentieth century. The investigation of bioavailability of nanosilver in the human body is necessary
because of its ubiquitous application. Silver is collected in all human tissues and its influence on human body is
unknown. In order to examine the accumulation of silver in different organs different technique can be applied:
scanning (SEM) or transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to obtain tissue images, particle induced X-ray emission
spectroscopy (microPIXE), and laser ablation coupled with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP
MS). Estimation of silver content in body fluids and environmental samples can be obtained by means of: atomic
absorption or emission spectroscopy (AAS, AES) and ICP MS enhanced with modern microextraction techniques.
