Magnetic nanoparticles NAUKA
IN SOLID-PHASE EXTRACTION
The need to obtain reliable results that allow to determine the content of trace analytes,
already became the driving force for the development of nowadays applied analytical
techniques, such as solid phase extraction (SPE). The use of magnetic materials in solid
phase extraction has received considerable attention in recent years. Magnetic nanoparti-
cles show high selectivity for a wide variety of chemical compounds with different polarity.
A small amount of this materials provide a high recovery of the analytes, even from large
volumes of samples. In addition, sorbents based on magnetic materials allow to easy and
fast isolation of analytes due to an external magnetic field. The simplicity of producing
magnetic nanoparticles in large quantity as well as the easiness of surface modification
enable them to have a wide range of potential application in biotechnology, medicine and
analytical chemistry.
