PART II. SAMPLING AND SAMPLE PREPARATION FOR THE ANALYSIS

Sampling and sample preparation are of utmost importance for the quality of analytical results. The main problem
in analysis of pharmaceutical residues in the environment is their occurrence in trace amounts and complexity
of the environmental matrices. Therefore it is necessary to develop analytical procedures that will decrease the
limit of detection and reduce matrix effect. Presented paper gathering the basic information of the most common
isolation techniques for trace pharmaceutical analysis. Overview focuses on principles of these techniques, their
advantages and disadvantages, and shows examples of their use for isolation of selected pharmaceuticals from
                    liquid and solid environmental matrices.
