Imprinted Polymers nauka
in Chemical Analysis

Ion imprinted polymers (IIP) are modern specific materials possessing specific sorption
properties for metal ions. The article describes the application of IIP in analysis of envi-
ronmental, clinical and food samples. The methods of preparation of IIP by trapping or
chemical immobilization of a template – a complex of metal ions with selected ligand, in
the polymer network are briefly described. The application of IIP as selective and efficient
sorbents in solid phase extraction technique for isolation/ separation and enrichment of
heavy metal, platinum metal, alkali and rare earths metal ions from various samples is
demonstrated. Due to unique properties of IIP in binding of imprinted form of metal, their
successful using in speciation analysis of chromium, mercury and tin in environmental and
biological samples is also discussed. Finally the application of IIP as receptors in chemical
sensors is described.
