How to assess air quality PRAKTYKA
in vehicle’s cabin?

The study of air pollution is an important aspect of environmental research. The study of indoor air quality is par-
ticularly important because nowadays people spend much of their time indoors. The car cabin can be regarded
as a special kind of indoor environment in which the level of air pollution can be up to three times higher than
in other closed areas. The main air pollutants in the new vehicle interior are volatile organic compounds, which
sources are materials used to equip vehicle interior. In present work the study of air quality inside vehicles’ cabins
with the use of instrumental and sensory methods are presented. The use of active sampling and chromatographic
methods allowed the determination of concentrations and identification of over 200 different organic compounds
in air samples collected from the new cars cabins. Sensory tests allowed odour evaluation inside vehicle and
determine the relationship between results of odour and chromatographic analysis.
